Kitchen Reveal

Normally when a blogger posts an entry entitled “kitchen reveal” you expect me to talk about how we spent oodles of time and money replacing the countertops and painting cabinets and the like, but guys, we hit the jackpot on our kitchen when we moved in. The previous owner updated the appliances, cabinets, backsplash, and sink before she sold it. While it’s not all entirely to my taste, it was a beautiful and, well, pricey upgrade that we decided fairly easily that we will enjoy as is. Here’s a before:

Our changes were basically easy, cosmetic adjustments to make the space more to our taste.

This is the other room of the house that we painted “Raindrop” by Sherwin Williams. It’s a small, 1950s kitchen that by strategically placed windows and cream-colored cabinets provides a light, roomy feeling (with a surprising amount of storage).

This little space (to the right of the door) features our makeshift command center. Ok, it’s a bulletin board with a calendar and important reminders (or inspiring cards) pinned to it. But it’s incredibly central and therefore handy. I’d like to upgrade to something more legit eventually, but for now this does the trick.

Wrap a tea towel around a frame for a canvas-like result.

Before we left Cali, a group of friends gave us this adorable tea towel. We ended up wrapping it around a large frame for a canvas-like result.

Hanging above the entry into the dining room we hung a Paris medallion that my mother brought home from her travels there back in the 70s. Just one of those things I always remember around the house growing up.

Pallet Coffee Station

The most exciting update to our kitchen would probably be our pallet coffee station (one of the many pallet projects from Memorial Day). We added a larger piece of wood to the top to function as a mantel, while the shelf holds cookbooks, coffee syrups, and wine. I love it.

Above the hall entry is a gift from one of my SILs–it’s a decorative plate of Alabama (featuring the Vulcan statue that we used to live at the base of). It’s nice having things around the house that help us celebrate our new home as well as the home we left.

Again, the backsplash isn’t what I would have chosen, but it’s new and lovely all the same. No plans of replacing it. As for my little mason jar soap dispenser, you can find a tutorial for that here. Super easy. And this sink may be my favorite thing in this kitchen. You could fit a golden retriever in this thing. It’s huge.

That’s the kitchen, folks. Like I said, not a huge change, but it’s time I get the ball rolling on showing you what we’ve done and plan to do on this house. As for upcoming changes to the kitchen, there’s not a lot in its future, but we are looking for a more attractive trash solution. We need two bins for trash and recycling. Currently we have two lid-less, mismatched bins. So if you guys have any attractive suggestions, I am all ears!

Coming soon: a pallet shelving tutorial, the kitchen rug tutorial, and a nursery reveal!
